How to play Foundation Draft
Build a list from scratch, manage every season and finish ten years with the highest leaderboard score possible.

Draft your foundation
Choose a complete 35-player list in a full snake draft. The Draft Assistant stays on screen and shows your urgent positions, best available player, best list fit and best long-term prospect.

Select and balance your best 22
Cover key positions and football roles, replace injured players and review the team-balance report. Auto-select considers role diversity.

Set tactics and play match day
Choose an attacking, balanced, defensive, high-pressure or possession approach, then simulate one quarter at a time or finish quickly.

Choose weekly program
After each manually played match, choose a preparation plan. Morale, skills efficiency, fatigue and fitness show the weekly consequences.

Manage the off-season
Re-sign players, draft, recruit and trade while keeping your squad visible. Players may be delisted during any off-season stage.

Forge a dynasty
Repeat the cycle for ten full seasons, collect awards and records, then unlock submission of your completed-run score.

Finals wins before the grand final also earn escalating bonuses. The highest applicable ladder bonus is used rather than stacking wildcard and top-six points.
Important systems
Game seed
The seed creates the player pool, draft order and generated career world. Friends using the same seed receive the same starting challenge.
Scouting
Draft prospects are shown through scouting estimates. Harder difficulties create wider rating and potential ranges, while players reveal their exact attributes after joining your club.
Contracts
Expiring players negotiate before the draft. Salary, contract length, role, loyalty and recent club success affect whether they accept.
Trade value
AI clubs consider rating, potential, age, salary, contract, role and list strategy. Recruit players with multi-asset packages or shop your own players for up to three genuine future picks.
Tactics and team balance
Training prepares the squad; tactics control how it plays. Key-position coverage, midfield mix, forward pressure, ruck quality and age balance all influence performance.
Training effects
Weekly training builds permanent development progress, manages fatigue and also creates a preparation effect for the next match. Auto-complete uses your selected program and intensity.
Leaderboard eligibility
Scores cannot be submitted during a career. The submission control unlocks only after the complete ten-season Foundation Draft run.
Saving
Careers automatically save to the signed-in Footy Forge account. A device cache is used only to verify uploads and recover an interrupted sync.
